The Birth of Mantespe
“It’s not to late to back out. Need I remind you about New Island?” Dr. Hakura stressed her worries one last time.
“No, not after all this work. Besides we have better technology for containing a pok¾mon than those fools and their pet Mewtwo.”
“Very well, but there is no turning back now…”
“It’s waking up!”
“The ultimate Pokemon.” Professor Sam Willow had spent years perfecting her creation, Her tight hair bun and tall stature, though, didn’t make her look like someone who was about to fulfil a life-long dream, but more like a strict science teacher…
“Aquero.”
“Is that stupid Aquero of yours still outside the door? Get rid of it!”
“Yes, ma’am.” Dr. Hakura stepped outside. Her long, black hair was also in a bun; it was necessary in a lab, but a more loose style, a couple stray ends. She was not quite as tall as the professor, who was all of 6 foot, plus a bit, but few women were, few men were. She walked up to the Aquero. It had been found near the lab, about two years ago shortly after the beginning of the experiments. She had offered to look after it and grown rather attached to the lil’ thing.
“We’re very busy. I know I’ve been neglecting you a bit, but soon we’ll have plenty of time to play. Be patient.”
“Ok, Meia.”
“Did you just say something?”
“Aqua?” Aquero looked puzzled. It was indeed a
strange looking pokemon. it had wings and legs like a bird but a fish-like tail and webbed, but almost eagle like feet. It was newly discovered; in fact this one was the first of its kind to be found, although a couple more soon turned up. It wasn't believed to evolve, though. There were few around, but it's common name, the "flying fish pokemon" was starting to become common use. It certainly wasn't thought to speak human.
“Must’ve been me. Back to my room, or go outside at the other end of the building. Either way, stay away from the lab or Prof. Willow will have you sent to medical. No Pokeball, no legal ownership, ‘member?”
Meia returned to the lab.
“Aquero, aqua aquero” That Willow, thinks she’s so smart.
“About time. You’d think you were dating that pokemon. Watch those vital signs.”
“Right. Wow! Check out this brain activity!”
“Perfect. Elements of dark and psychic…”
“…With the ability to learn fighting moves.”
“Excellent.”
“Yes, Mrs. Burns…I mean, yes, how much he can learn.”
“And what about the female?”
“She will be fully developed soon as well, I’m talking mere days.”
“This is all working out perfectly.
“What about their names? If we don’t add it into their genetic memories they’ll be mute and besides, what will we call them?”
“I’ve thought about it and ‘Insectra’ will suffice.”
Meia looked into the test tube. Six legs, although perfectly able to walk on the almost hominid back pair. Perhaps ‘two legs, four arms’ would be more appropriate. Add to that two pairs of strong wings and that powerful stinger. Stinger? Beedrill's DNA should have been purely cosmetic. Meia ran a quick test.
“Ma’am? Do you see that stinger?”
“Oh, yes. Adds to the overall effect, don’t you think?”
“Yes indeed it does, but it also contains a potent poison that could floor even a level 40 Skarmory and poison usually has no effect on steel types.”
“Ah! An unexpected, but welcome addition to the formula.”
"The idea was to create a powerful pok¾mon, but this poison could kill many others."
"This creature will not be leaving the lab until our experiments are complete. Even when it does it will be controlled using special armour. All that needs to be done is to send the measurements."
"That was Giovanni's mistake, you read Team Rockets files."
"Of course, this wouldn't be possible without the information on their cloning experiments. Besides, not only will this armour be more powerful, it will be made to fit. The Insectras' won't even notice it is on."
"Insectra..." the pokemon looked around. This was the first time he had opened his bug-like eyes so what should've been a strange sight looking sight of the lab was of no consequence.
"His eyes are healthy enough. Look at the way he's staring at the surroundings." Meia was looking attentively at the Insectra
"Good. We'll leave the computer at it for now. Tomorrow we begin the experiments."
"...And in a couple months we can start to train it against other pokemon, right Professor?"
"Heavens no! It could take a couple years. We have to investigate evolution, both Technical and Hidden Machines, breeding and how the male develops in comparison to the female…"
"By experiments I thought you meant basic procedures of attack strength and level."
"No, I'm afraid not. You seem a little upset, perhaps you should sleep on it." The professor gave an enormous, but threatening, grin.
"Yeah, right."
5 nights rest did little to ease Meia’s conscience, but the Insectra was starting to move around the enclosure, they could start the experiments.
Meanwhile the female Insectra was entering the dream state, in a few hours it would be fully conscious.
“Right, get it strapped down” Willow ordered Meia, who proceeded to order the computer to tranquillise the pokemon.
“Wouldn’t it be easier to use the robots?”
“Our technology is advanced, but not so much that it could restrain a living creature automatically without breaking a bone slash wing slash tail.”
“Hmmm, I suppose so.”
Meia walked into the enclosure and strapped the groggy insect-type to the… bed? Whatever was it was made to fit and the Insectra didn’t complain.
“Is it restrained? Good. Start recording the data.”
Meia didn’t complain at this point. It was a basic physical, all pok¾mon had to have one at least once every 2 years by law, preferably every 6 months though.
“Physically at full health, hearing, sight, smell, taste, touch and ESP all good…”
“ESP only good” Willow interrupted.
“…Telekinetic abilities optimal…thank you…and wings in perfect working order. Congratulations it’s a healthy not-so-baby boy.” Willow just smiled. Meia felt sorry for the Insectra. She began to understand how long it would be in there. When they… no, when Professor Willow was done it would be sold to the highest bidder, no doubt. Nothing she could do though.
They both went to their rooms and turned in for the night.
Bored… I want out. There’s so much to do, but so many restraints. I should be in charge, not those humans.
I agree,
Who’s that?
The other one. Next to you, but we can’t see each other. Yet.
You should wake up soon. They probably want to breed us. As if.
I’ll change that.
You? I’m in charge! I awoke first; I’m the strongest.
Let’s see about that…
Willow and Meia were alerted by the high ESP readings as an alarm went off in their rooms. They ran to the lab, Aquero in pursuit. They arrived in time to see the male Insectra break out of its restraints, followed by the female as she forced herself awake.
Professor Willow screamed, “Activate the robots.”
Meia complied, but the robots blew up! After a couple seconds spent staring at the remnants before beginning to run to the exit. A powerful blast came from the male Insectra as the female teleported away. The lab was destroyed in the blink of an eye. The two most powerful creatures in the world had been unleashed, and no one could stop them…
If it hadn’t been for Aquero, the story would’ve ended now, but it doesn’t and neither does Dr. Meia Hakura. Unbeknownst to anyone, Aquero are in fact psychic/water types. During the confusion, Aquero had teleported Meia out of the lab, but, unfortunately, not out of the blast zone. Meia wasn’t dead yet, but would be soon.
High above the Insectra were exchanging blows on each other, but neither had weakness, or strength, against the other. Eventually, though, the newly awoken female was beaten by fatigue and started to fall to ground…
At the same time the Aquero was using it’s most unusual and unique attack. To save Meia’s life, it began to fuse with Meia, her body would be the same, but she would gain Aquero’s strengths. The fallen Insectra landed near to the pair…
“Doctor! Come quick!”
“What’s wrong… how did that happen?” Doctor Hakushi stared at the brainwave patterns.
“I don’t know.”
“That one’s human, so it must be Dr. Hakura. This one is a pokemon.” Dr. Hakushi typed something. “It matches Aquero. The last one is a pokemon too” He typed the same sequence. “It doesn’t match anything in the database…” The nurse looked at him in shock.
“Get Doctor Joy here at once!”
